Dear Neighbors,
It’s been another productive week at the legislature. My colleagues and I have been working diligently and we have made great progress on behalf of all Minnesotans. It is so busy, but I could not think of a better way to start off 2023 than by getting our work done in an efficient and effective manner.
Federal Tax Conformity
The Minnesota House of Representatives, Senate, and Governor Walz are working together and working quickly to get things done. Less than two weeks into the year, the new House and Senate unanimously passed a major bill to provide $100 million in tax cuts for families and businesses and the Governor signed it into law.
Tenant Protections
It was over 20 years ago that Minnesota updated its tenant protection laws. I have been working with community organizations like Homes for All Minnesota and Home Line. On Wednesday, we held the #StartWithAHome Rally at Capitol. I’m committed to finally getting source of income & housing support across the finish line this session. More to come!
Reproductive Freedom
This week I had the honor to chair the Health Committee as we heard HF 91 from Chair Tina Liebling. We must repeal outdated, unused, and unconstitutional laws that are still in statute that violate Minnesotans’ reproductive freedoms. I’m thankful for Chair Liebling and all of my colleagues who passed this bill out of our committee. It now heads to the Judiciary Committee for its next hearing. You can see the bill presentation here.
3HMONGTV
I participated in a panel on 3HMONGTV with Foua Vang. It’s so important to me to stay in touch with our Hmong and AAPI communities to let them know when we pass legislation that directly affects them. I was happy they wanted to talk about kidney disease, which is quite prevalent in the Hmong community. I’m honored to be working with the National Kidney Foundation to pass an organ and marrow bill. You can watch our panel here.
