SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Yesterday, the Minnesota House passed the Protecting Reproductive Options (PRO) Act. The bill enshrines Minnesotans’ fundamental right to reproductive healthcare. Rep. Kaohly Vang Her (DFL - St. Paul) co-authored and voted for the legislation.
“I am proud to have voted for this bill and to see the Minnesota House pass these essential protections for our communities,” said Her. “This session, I am co-chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus with Senator Lindsey Port. We are working together to move a package of bills through the legislature to strengthen our rights to these fundamental health care decisions. This bill is major progress, and we are moving more bills to strengthen Minnesotan’s rights through committees as we speak.”
The bill protects Minnesotans’ right to contraception, the right to carry a pregnancy to term, and the right to abortion, and ensures the right to privacy for personal reproductive health decisions. It also prevents interference by anti-choice politicians who seek to enact or defend medically unnecessary barriers to comprehensive reproductive health care. The Senate is still moving the bill through its committees, and Gov. Walz has signaled he will sign the bill into law.
