Dear Neighbors, I hope you are doing well, and hope you and your family have stayed safe during this winter storm. The legislature is closed through Friday, and we resume our business on Monday. |
Snowstorm UpdateSt. Paul is currently under a snow emergency as of yesterday. City leaders?strongly encourage all residents to be prepared for difficult travel conditions and plan accordingly: ?
Power & Energy Preparation from Xcel Xcel Energy announced that it is gearing up additional crews who will work to get the lights back on if customers lose power during the storm. They also provided tips Minnesotans can use to stay safe, report outages, and stay informed when severe weather strikes. If you experience a power outage, take the following steps to report it as soon as possible:
If outages occur, it’s important for us to have access to the most recent updates about their power restoration. Stay informed by using the My Xcel Energy mobile app or visiting the Xcel Energy website. The website hosts an outage map that displays information on the number of customers out and anticipated time for restoration when available. You can also stay informed by checking their Facebook page. |
Progress at the CapitolOn Monday, we passed a slate of bills that will make Minnesota a safer and more welcoming state. First, we passed a ban on conversion ‘therapy’ for children and vulnerable adults. We must celebrate our LGBTQ+ youth for the people they are. I was proud to ban this dangerous and discredited practice and ensure we are protecting all Minnesotans. Also, we passed a bill to establish The Office of Missing and Murdered Black Women and Girls. As a state, we have a responsibility to do more to address disproportionate rates at which people inflict violence upon Black women and girls compared to white peers. Over 60,000 Black women and girls are missing in the United States, and Black women are more than twice as likely to be victims of homicide. I was proud to vote for this initiative that will save lives. Lastly, we passed a bill to curb catalytic converter theft. Victims of catalytic converter theft lose thousands of dollars and experience major disruptions in their lives. This bill aims to deter thieves and bad actors by changing state laws governing the possession of catalytic converters by individuals and the purchase of catalytic converters by scrap metal dealers. I’m glad we are tackling this issue that has affected many Minnesotans this session. All of these bills passed with bipartisan support. I thank all of my House colleagues for putting the needs of Minnesotans at the heart of our work this session |
UpdatesI had the opportunity to tour The Good Acre in Falcon Heights with the Minnesota Farmers Union. It was great to talk with farmers about how agriculture can heal the earth and is vital to Minnesota’s economy. Last Friday, The Minnesota Asian Pacific Caucus held a public town hall. We had community leaders, stakeholders, and advocates from housing, education, workforce development, public safety, and arts in attendance. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear concerns from those in attendance and share the wonderful work we have been doing at the Capitol. Lastly, I attended the UnRestrict Minnesota rally at the Capitol. As co-chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, we have more work to do to ensure our laws uphold our rights and freedoms to abortion care and all other reproductive health care options. Stay tuned for updates! |
