SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House passed The Reproductive Freedom Defense Act, which will guarantee out-of-state subpoenas and court orders for records related to reproductive health care cannot be weaponized for prosecution where such care is considered a crime. The bill passed on a vote of 68-62. Rep. Kaohly Vang Her (DFL – Saint Paul) co-authored and voted for the bill.
“The Reproductive Freedom Defense Act is another vital piece of legislation when it comes to health care in Minnesota,” said Rep. Her. “As co-chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, I applaud my colleagues in the House for passing this legislation. Not only does it protect Minnesotans but any American who seeks care in our state. We have seen states propose legislation allowing private citizens to sue anyone who helps a resident from their state access abortion care. This is clearly out of line with the views of Minnesotans who do not want to see abortion providers or patients prosecuted for providing or seeking health care.”
The Senate’s companion bill is moving through its committees. Video of the floor session will be available on House Public Information Services’ YouTube Channel.
