Neighbors,
Governor Tim Walz today issued an executive order aimed at curbing the fast, alarming spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota. The new guidelines apply to bars and restaurants, gyms and youth sports, which are some of the most significant sources of COVID-19 outbreaks across the state. Last week Governor Walz also announced $10 million in funding to support small businesses affected by the pandemic.
This announcement comes after weeks of record-setting highs in new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths due to COVID-19. The executive order takes effect Friday at midnight.
I am incredibly thankful to Gov. Walz for helping to keep us safe as the virus amps up.
We know these new public guidelines will be very difficult on many in our community and throughout the state. That is why along with Gov. Walz we are calling on the federal government to take immediate action to help our businesses and families make ends meet. Our bars, restaurants, and many small businesses are facing unprecedented challenges. I would urge all of you to order curbside at your favorite establishments and do what you can to show your support.
An important part of reducing the spread of the virus is to get tested and stay home when possible. Here is a list of testing locations. Find one near you: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/MNMDH/bulletins/2acf1fc
We will get through this if we all work together.
