Dear Neighbors, I want to start off by acknowledging the recent news on the Minneapolis Police Department’s violations of the Minnesota Human Rights Act. I joined my Minneapolis colleagues in thanking the tireless efforts of the Minnesota Human Rights Department in their thorough investigation, and I stand with the members of our community that have too often been mistreated by the MPD. The findings have shown what many in our community have known for a long time - there is a systemic and deeply harmful pattern of human rights violations perpetrated by MPD. These practices do not make our communities safer, and do real damage to Black, Indigenous, and Minnesotans of color in our city A spotlight continues to be on Minneapolis, not for all the things that make our city great, but for the failings of those meant to protect our neighbors. In my position, I will continue to push for the necessary reforms to implement accountability, empower marginalized communities, and repair trust with residents.
A Busy Week in the Minnesota HouseMuch of this week has been spent on the House floor, passing our House DFL proposals in major legislative areas. Already we’ve passed our bills on Legacy, Agriculture, Housing, Broadband, Transportation, State Government, Veterans, Pensions, Education, and the Environment. Today, we’ll be debating our Judiciary, Public Safety, and Higher Education proposals. For our House Education proposal, dealing with our youngest learners all the way to high school graduation, I spoke on the House floor about how ? of our students go hungry. We have proposals in our bill to fix that. You can watch my speech below. |
These are all incredibly important bills tackling issues that impact all Minnesotans. You can read more about them in the links above, but as I serve on the Legacy, Education, and Environment committees, I’d like to highlight those proposals for you. |
