Dear Neighbors,
The final weekend of the 2022 legislative session has arrived and it remains to be seen how much of the largest budget surplus in state history will be returned to taxpayers. I have been fighting hard all year to make sure that you and your family receive the permanent tax relief that you deserve. Unfortunately, House Democrats and Gov. Walz are demanding significant increases in spending in exchange for any tax cuts.
If they were to get their way, there would be an increase in state spending by more than 17%. This is unacceptable at a time when state government is already fully funded and after Minnesota received nearly $80 billion in federal COVID relief dollars during the pandemic.
I am opposed to their demands to raise spending. This surplus belongs to you, and I will keep pushing to make sure Minnesotans get the tax relief they deserve.
