ST. PAUL – On Thursday, the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association announced that they had named House Republican Public Safety Lead Rep. Paul Novotny, R-Elk River, their Legislator of the Year.
“I am honored to be named MPPOA’s 2024 Legislator of the Year,” said Rep. Novotny. “My work in St. Paul has always been about putting Minnesotans and their families first. A core part of that is working with law enforcement to make sure that they have the support and resources they need to keep our communities safe. I look forward to continuing this important work as we work together to support policies that will help peace officers serve the public in a safe and effective manner.”
Novotny, a former peace officer with the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office for 33 years, has been a champion for law enforcement throughout his time in the legislature.
“Representative Novotny has been an invaluable voice in support of law enforcement and has consistently championed bills to allow our police and peace officers to do their jobs well with the resources and tools they desperately need,” said House Minority Leader Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring. “I applaud MPPOA’s recognition of Rep. Novotny's many contributions to the legislature, and look forward to his continuing work supporting the men and women in uniform who risk their lives to keep us safe.”
