Saint Paul, MN – State Representative Paul Novotny, R-Elk River, was appointed Monday evening as the next Republican Chair of the House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee. First elected in 2020, Representative Novotny was recently re-elected to serve another term representing House District 30B which includes portions of Anoka, Sherburne, and Wright Counties.
"It is an honor to be appointed to chair this important committee—one that has a direct impact on the safety of our communities and neighborhoods,” said Rep. Novotny. “For too long, this committee has coddled criminals, focusing on soft-on-crime policies that have made our communities less safe and tied the hands of peace officers, leading to a staffing crisis in many departments across Minnesota. As chairman, I will make sure that victims and their families are the priority of our criminal justice system, and work to give law enforcement the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
Rep. Novotny previously served 34 years as a deputy in the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department. He was the Republican-lead of the Public Safety Committee during the 2023-2024 legislative session and has been the leading voice in support of crime victims, law enforcement, and the 2nd Amendment in St. Paul.
The 2025 legislative session begins January 14th.
