Neighbors,
Last week, I was very busy meeting with our local partners and presenting bills in advance of the second committee deadline on Friday. As we craft the state budget, the hectic pace continues this week. I am grateful for your input to ensure the success of our community and region.
As a state representative, we are asked to sponsor legislation covering a wide range of topics, interests, and priorities in our district and those with statewide significance. Among the bills I presented in committee last week:
HF 900 Establishing shelter resident rights and shelter provider practice task force.
HF 1041 Strengthening the Increase Teachers of Color Act in higher education and modifying student teacher grants and teacher shortage loan forgiveness provisions.
HF 1414 Providing flood hazard mitigation funding to Moorhead.
HF2285 Providing funding to the Science Museum of Minnesota.
HF1402 Authorizing border cities to adopt state building code changes related to frost footing depth.
HF2124 Establishing an office of missing and murdered indigenous relatives.
HF1042 Establishing State Building Code and State Fire Code waiver process for members of recognized tribes.

Celebrating Interior Secretary Deb Haaland
Last week, we celebrated the confirmation of New Mexico Congresswoman Deb Haaland as Interior Secretary, serving as the first Indigenous American in that post. You can read my statement here.
I was joined by the other Indigenous members of the legislature, Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn and Sen. Mary Kunesh, dressed in our ribbon skirts, to commemorate the historic moment.
