Rep. Heather Keeler issues statement on budget news
ST. PAUL – On February 28, officials from Minnesota Management and Budget released an updated budget forecast which projects a $9.25 billion state budget surplus for the current biennium. The analysis does not incorporate inflationary costs or the various impacts of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
Rep. Heather Keeler (DFL - Moorhead) issued the following statement:
“It’s heartbreaking that while our state continues to thrive economically, we, as a legislature, continue to let so many issues stay unaddressed. There are teachers in need of better pay, parents who need cheaper childcare, and homeless youth on the street. We can use this opportunity to invest in our rural and urban communities that have been historically underfunded. Sure, we have a lot of money, but let’s check in on how each of our neighbors are doing while corporations succeed.”
