SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced a three-step timeline to end nearly all state COVID-19 restrictions by May 28, and end the statewide masking requirement once 70 percent of Minnesotans age 16 years and older get their vaccine, or by July 1. The announcement comes as more than 2.6 million Minnesotans have gotten their shot and the state is on track to vaccinate 70 percent of Minnesotans by the end of June.
Rep. Luke Frederick (DFL-Mankato) released this statement:
“We have been through an incredibly difficult year, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel with Governor Walz’s announcement today. I will work with my legislative colleagues to help Minnesotans impacted the most get back on their feet, but we must acknowledge the pandemic did not impact everyone equally, nor will the recovery. We will continue to address the inequities which occur in many of our communities until everyone feels safe and has opportunities to thrive. I ask everyone to get vaccinated to speed up our return to a fully recovered Minnesota.”
