Neighbors, More Minnesotans are getting the COVID-19 vaccine, but the Delta variant is a reminder the pandemic is not behind us. COVID-19 vaccinations are still widely available and the latest guidance from the CDC outlines eligibility for a booster shot if you received the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago and: Use the state’s Vaccine Locator Map to find a provider near you. Free vaccines are available at pharmacies, community clinics, from health care providers, and more. Booster shots aren’t yet authorized for people who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Influenza could put more pressure on our care facilities and health care workers and our medical community is encouraging us to get a flu shot this year. Your Voice is Needed for the Future of Hwy 169 in Mankato and North Mankato The Mankato/North Mankato Area Planning Organization (MAPO) and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) are seeking public input on the recommended long-term vision and implementation plan for Hwy 169 in Mankato, North Mankato, and South Bend Township. An online meeting is scheduled Thursday, October 14 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. to provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the recommended improvements to Hwy 169, ask questions, and provide comments. To register for the online meeting and submit comments, visit the project website: hwy169corridorstudy.com. Comments will be collected October 14 – October 28. Written comments can also be dropped off outside the Intergovernmental Center or can be mailed to MAPO located in the same building: Intergovernmental Center, 10 Civic Center Plaza, Mankato, MN 56001. Energy Assistance Program Expands The Minnesota Department of Commerce has announced the expansion of the Energy Assistance Program (EAP), ensuring Minnesotans can stay warm and lights will stay on during the cold months ahead. More Minnesotans will now qualify for the EAP. The Cold Weather Rule also goes into effect earlier, on October 1, and lasts through April 30. Military service members can claim their 2017 military tax credit The Minnesota Department of Revenue reminds the state’s military service members to take advantage of a refundable military tax credit before it expires. The 2017 Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone will expire October 15, 2021, for qualifying service members. More than 2,300 service members were eligible for the 2017 Form M99, Credit for Service in a Military Combat zone, but about 1,100 service members still have not applied. The credit is $120 per month or partial month served. To claim the credit electronically, visit www.revenue.state.mn.us and enter M99 into the Search box. Complete the online form to apply for the credit. To claim the credit by mail: Complete the 2017 Form M99, Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone . High School Page Program It is time for interested high school juniors to apply for the High School Page Program. The weeklong program provides a front row seat to the legislative process and allows participants to be involved in policy, public service, other aspects of the state legislature.
