Neighbors, Residents of the Mankato area know its appeal, including the history, natural beauty, active and engaged community members, higher education opportunities, unique businesses, and more. This week, visitors from all over the state are experiencing Mankato firsthand when Minnesota’s 43rd Annual Statewide Historic Preservation Conference, PreserveMN, is held here. Nearly 200 preservationists, historians, citizen advocates, elected officials, and others from across Minnesota are attending this year’s conference. I was honored to provide brief opening remarks. I am excited our visitors are seeing the best of Mankato’s past and weighed in on our future! Community EventsI recently met with reps from Students United, which is an advocacy group led by MSU students. They were grateful for the investment in our public institutions and look forward to upcoming investments in public higher education. Another important issue for them is finding a way all eligible students could get their FAFSA filled out prior to high school graduation, thus making the process easier for students and administrators. Leaf Color ReportThe temperatures are still warm, but the leaves are turning! You can now check the weekly Minnesota DNR updates on the Fall Color Finder, where you can read the latest report, sign up for updates, view photos, and learn about events. Make the most of your autumn travels, whether you are exploring Greater Minnesota or spending the day in one of our beautiful regional parks! Storm Damage AssistanceMany of you may have property damage from recent area storms. It is important for you to know where to turn if you need help. The Minnesota Department of Commerce has a Disaster Response Guide to help walk you through next steps.
