House and Senate Co-Chairs of the Civility Caucus Call for Unity in the Wake of Political Violence
ST. PAUL, MN -- The bipartisan, bicameral co-chairs of the Civility Caucus issued the following statement in the wake of the attempted assassination on former President Trump:
“As Co-Chairs of the Civility Caucus, we were horrified and saddened by the attempted assassination of former President Trump Saturday and the death of an innocent rally attendee. We are thankful that former President Trump was not seriously injured, and we are continuing to keep in our thoughts and prayers those who were critically wounded in the attack.
Political violence is never acceptable and should be condemned by all who support democracy, which is predicated on freedom of assembly, free elections, the right to peaceful protest, and the rule of law. The strength of the American experiment is that we, the people, change our government leaders through free elections, not by force, coercion or corruption. We must all unite in our condemnation of political violence and our renewed commitment to working for change through our democratic institutions.”
The Civility Caucus is led by Rep. Sandra Feist (D-39B) and Rep. Kristin Robbins (R-37A) in the House and Sen. Zach Duckworth (R-57) and Sen. Grant Hauschild (D-03) in the Senate.
