As we approach the end of 2021, we have a chance to reflect back and look forward. I'm truly honored and humbled to serve you in the legislature. I'd like to take this chance to note some of my legislative highlights from the last year, as well as some hopes for the next session.
Highlights of the 2021 Session:
Authored HF41, which would cover paid sick leave for essential employees in MN that were not included in the federal bill. This created the Frontline Worker Pay Working Group.
Authored a bill that would prohibit police officer affiliation with violent white supremacy organizations. (HF 593)
Authored and secured investments in our local educational radio stations. (HF 1770)
Authored the Minnesota Health Plan bill which will ensure access to healthcare for every Minnesota citizen. (HF 1774)
Passed major investment into local public health, small businesses, childcare, student mental health care, and our K-12 schools.
Served on the Frontline Worker Pay Working Group.
Hopes for next session:
Push to get 667,000 essential workers a $1,500 check as recognition
I'm currently working on public safety legislation for next year that would fund social services and violence prevention programs and fund law enforcement strategically, while increasing police transparency and accountability. These measures are supported by non-partisan research and would help us ensure that all of our neighbors are able to get home safe at the end of the day.
It's truly important that we're able to put politics aside and pass paid family and medical leave, which would allow up to 12 weeks of paid leave for workers to care for a new child, themselves, or a family member due to a serious health emergency.
While we celebrate Minnesota's economy with a $7.7 billion projected surplus this year, we also can see drastic underinvestment in our communities. Now is the time that we need to pass affordable healthcare, expand new homeownership opportunities, update our infrastructure, and address current climate disasters.
As we come to the end of my first year as a state representative, I am grateful for the relationships I've built with incredible local leaders, community organizers, and engaged constituents. I'm grateful for the people who keep our district running during this pandemic: emergency responders, teachers, city employees, and frontline workers. I'm incredibly grateful to serve you at the State Capitol, working for the betterment of our district and Minnesota.
I wish you and yours a warm and happy holiday season. As always, feel free to reach out to me at rep.cedrick.frazier@house.mn with any questions or concerns about legislative issues in the Minnesota House, I look forward to hearing from you!
