Minnesota House approves Rep. Frazier’s legislation to support frontline workers
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Tonight, the Minnesota House approved legislation to replenish the state’s Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund and deliver $1,500 bonus checks for more than 600,00 frontline workers, including health care workers, first responders, child care providers, food service and retail workers, and more. Additionally, the bill makes hourly school employees like paraprofessionals, classroom assistants, bus drivers and others eligible for unemployment benefits in the summer.
Rep. Cedrick Frazier (DFL – New Hope) voted for the legislation and issued the following statement:
“Frontline workers – who helped get our state through COVID’s toughest times – have been waiting patiently for the bonus checks we promised them last spring,” said Rep. Cedrick Frazier, author of the frontline worker proposal. “This has been an incredible exercise in political compromise. I applaud our Speaker for working hard in these negotiations to deliver support for all of our state’s frontline workers, while also granting hourly school workers access to unemployment assistance. Now we pass the ball to the Senate. Our workers in Minnesota need to see swift action from Senate leaders now.”
