SAINT PAUL, Minn. - On Thursday, January 19, 2023, the Minnesota House passed the Protecting Reproductive Options (PRO) Act. The bill enshrines Minnesotans’ fundamental right to reproductive health care. Representative Cedrick Frazier (DFL- New Hope) voted for the legislation.
“Reproductive health care is health care,” said Representative Frazier. As a father and husband, it is imperative that I help ensure that my wife and daughters maintain their reproductive freedoms. The PRO Act does that by codifying reproductive health care for all Minnesotans.”
The bill protects Minnesotans’ right to contraception, the right to carry a pregnancy to term, and the right to abortion, and ensures the right to privacy for personal reproductive health decisions. It also prevents interference by anti-choice politicians who seek to enact or defend medically unnecessary barriers to comprehensive reproductive health care. The Senate will act on the bill next, and Gov. Walz has signaled he will sign the legislation into law.
