Dear neighbors, I’d like to remind you that Sen. Jim Carlson, Rep. Sandra Masin, and I are holding a town hall tonight from 6 to 7 p.m. We will talk about our plans for the 2022 legislative session and provide opportunities to share questions, ideas, and feedback! If you’d like to join us, you can register to receive the Zoom link. Today also marks the one-year anniversary of the violent attack on our nation’s Capitol. I vividly remember January 6, 2021. As a brand-new State Representative, I was at the Capitol, soaking in the reality that I was in St. Paul, representing Eagan in the legislature. At the same moment, some elected officials, led by the former President, turned their backs on America by inciting a violent insurrection at our nation's Capitol in an attempt to overturn the election results. To this day, too many Republican lawmakers - at the national level and right here in Minnesota - continue to undermine our democracy, spreading deliberate lies to stoke anger and exposing Americans from election administrators to superintendents to death threats and violence. I've seen it up close right here in our community, as have many of you. We must not tolerate it! You sent me to the state Capitol to represent you, and that includes protecting Minnesota's tradition of voter participation and trusted local elections against future violence or sabotage. You can count on me to stand up for our democracy. This isn't partisan - I am calling on all my legislative colleagues to join me in demanding accountability for the violent insurrection of January 6, 2021 and protecting Minnesota and our country from the acts of right-wing extremists. I ask all of you to take action as well. Speak out against extremism. Contact your representatives at all levels. Show through words and deeds that you too refuse to tolerate the undermining of our democracy. I look forward to working with you this year! Sincerely, Liz Reyer |
