St. Paul, Minnesota — On Tuesday, April 20, the jury reached a guilty verdict on all charges in the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. Representative Kaela Berg (DFL - Burnsville) released the following statement:
“Like the early warm rays of the Spring sun on your skin, yesterday’s verdict in the Chauvin murder trial felt like the first tentative stirrings of justice in a long desolate winter of injustice. Yesterday was a day to rejoice, a day for healing, a day of triumph. And today our work begins anew, to continue to dismantle the racist systems that murder Black people. The whispers of change are electric in the air that we breathe, a luxury not afforded to George Floyd. May we not fail in this moment.”
