Dear Neighbors,
The House has returned to an official tie as the special election took place in Roseville and the DFL candidate was sworn in this week. We now enter our power sharing agreement where committees are tied and each side shares who gets to chair each meeting. This is pretty unique and historic and I’m excited to get to work together in earnest to pass needed budget bills! Here’s an update:
Rallying with Federal Workers
On Thursday I rallied with Federal workers who spoke out on the impact Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and DOGE are having on their co-workers and the people they serve. Federal workers are the backbone of many services that we rely on, maybe without knowing it. We cannot let callous billionaires fire these workers for no reason other than to line their pockets. Standing Firm on Reproductive Freedom
I joined my colleagues in voting down a “born alive” bill that made its way to the floor last year. Let’s be clear: doctors already provide appropriate medical care, and to suggest otherwise, is false, offensive, and dangerous. This bill was based in falsehood about the care doctors provide and parents seek. We have a responsibility to legislate honestly. There is no such thing as abortion during labor and delivery. That’s not how medical care works, and it’s wrong and irresponsible to suggest otherwise.
Upcoming Town Hall
I hope you can join me, Rep. Jess Hanson, and Sen. Lindsey Port for our District 55 Town Hall on Saturday, April 5th from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Burnhaven Library (1101 County Rd 42 W, Burnsville, MN 55306). We’ll be providing updates about our work building a strong state budget and specific legislation we’re working on and then take questions from constituents about the issues that matter most to you. I hope you can join us!
Real ID Taking Effect in May
Beginning May 7, 2025, Minnesotans 18 years of age or older will not be able to use their standard driver's license or identification card to board domestic flights or enter certain federal facilities. Instead, they will need one of three options:
- Minnesota REAL ID driver's license or identification card.
- Minnesota Enhanced driver's license or identification card.
- Other federally-approved forms of identification. They are listed online here, but include:
- U.S. passport or passport card
- Foreign government-issued passport
- U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
- Permanent resident card
- Border crossing card
- Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID
- U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
