SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Yesterday, the Minnesota House passed the Protecting Reproductive Options (PRO) Act. The bill enshrines Minnesotans’ fundamental right to reproductive healthcare. Representative Esther Agbaje (DFL- Minneapolis) voted for the legislation.
“Every Minnesotan deserves the right to make decisions about their reproductive health care,” said Representative Agbaje. “The bill we passed adds an additional layer of protection for Minnesotans seeking reproductive care. The PRO Act has been widely demanded and supported by Minnesotans, and I am grateful to the testifiers who have bravely shared their stories with our state and my colleagues.”
The bill protects Minnesotans’ right to contraception, the right to carry a pregnancy to term, and the right to abortion, and ensures the right to privacy for personal reproductive health decisions. It also prevents interference by anti-choice politicians who seek to enact or defend medically unnecessary barriers to comprehensive reproductive health care. The Senate will act on the bill next, and Gov. Walz has signaled he will sign the legislation into law.
