SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Monday, February 27, a transgender woman was violently attacked at the Lake Street Light Rail Station. Members of the Minnesota House People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) Caucus issued the following statement in wake of the horrendous attack:
“We are outraged by the recent attack on a transgender woman in Minneapolis. While this incident was publicized, this is not an isolated incident. The trans community, especially Black transgender and gender non-conforming people face some of the highest levels of discrimination, violence, and structural racism, across the nation on a daily basis. The POCI Caucus strongly condemns the anti-transgender and anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation being introduced nationally by extremist Republicans. We stand in solidarity with our Trans Black and Brown and enby community by protecting and affirming their human rights.”
