Minneapolis, Minn. – Today, the House Capital Investment Committee visited North Minneapolis as part of the committee's 2023 Bonding Tour. The tour is an opportunity for committee members to visit sites across the state that are seeking capital investment and hear presentations from community members and stakeholders.
In North Minneapolis, the committee heard from representatives of the Black Women's Wealth Alliance to acquire more funding to improve community resources and services. The Black Women's Wealth Alliance is seeking funding for a new community center that will provide a range of services to Black women and their families.
Lawmakers also heard from Hennepin County officials about the need for improvements to the Hennepin Avenue Suspension Bridge. The county is seeking funding to replace the bridge's deck and make other repairs to ensure its long-term safety and reliability.
Representative Esther Agbaje (DFL-Minneapolis), released the following statement:
“I'm grateful to the House Capital Investment Committee for taking the time to visit North Minneapolis today and learn more about our community's needs. I urge them to support the funding requests made by the Black Women's Wealth Alliance and Hennepin County to improve long-term safety concerns for the Hennepin Avenue Suspension Bridge. Investing in these projects will create jobs, boost the local economy, and improve the quality of life for all residents of North Minneapolis."
