Dear Neighbors, It’s a heavy week for our community, our state, and our country as we observe the one-year anniversary of the day George Floyd was murdered. A year ago, his loved ones lost a son, brother, nephew, and friend. Gianna lost her dad. We lost a neighbor and a member of our community. I'm holding his family, his loved ones, and all who are grieving in my heart this week and beyond. On Wednesday, I joined community members at 38th & Chicago to honor and remember George Floyd. One year after his death, the fight for justice, for Black lives, and for inclusive democracy continues. We must keep pushing for action, following BIPOC leadership, and overcoming the resistance of the forces that stand in the way of change - in Minneapolis, in Minnesota, in Congress, and across the country. This week, we remember the life and legacy of George Floyd and recommit to the work of building a democracy and economy where everyone in our community and our country is valued, safe, and has what they need to thrive. Our Work at the Capitol ContinuesWe have work to do, and that work continues at the Capitol. This year, the House passed important police reform and accountability measures and other key policies that advance racial equity, but so far Senate Republicans have blocked the passage of these critical reforms. I’m following closely as negotiations with the Senate continue. As a member of the State Government, Veterans, and Elections Conference Committee, I’m also working to protect and strengthen our multi-racial democracy, strengthen and improve state government, and ensure all of our veterans have the support they need. My colleagues and I remain committed to delivering a strong, equitable state budget that prioritizes equity and investments in Minnesota kids, families, workers, communities, and small businesses. Join Our Town Hall Tonight at 6pmRep. Jim Davnie, Sen. Patricia Torres Ray, and I are holding a virtual town hall today!
