Dear Neighbors, It’s finally starting to look and feel like fall in Minnesota! I hope that you are getting a chance to enjoy the fall colors and the fresh air. And if you’ve got a yard full of leaves, like I do -- happy raking! Minnesota Values Project SurveyI believe in the power of us and that starts with your voices in the policymaking process. This fall, we are seeking input from you and Minnesotans across the state as we prepare for the 2022 legislative session. We want to hear from you about what’s going well for you and your family, your hopes for the future, and the challenges and roadblocks you’ve experienced to inform our policy priorities. Please share your voice by filling out our short Minnesota Values Project survey. It’s just four questions, and your feedback will help guide our work next year and beyond. Connecting with MinnesotansSeveral of my legislative colleagues recently joined me for a tour of the revitalization project at the Historic Fort Snelling at Bdote. The Minnesota Historical Society has done an amazing job revitalizing this site! We toured the new visitor center, the outdoor landscape, and updated programming developed with community partners. The new programming aims to tell the stories of the many people who’ve interacted with this place throughout history, including Indigenous people, soldiers, enslaved people, immigrants, and women. I also had the opportunity to take a tour of North Minneapolis hosted by Community Members for Environmental Justice (CMEJ). My colleagues and I heard about environmental racism and injustice directly from community leaders and residents impacted by pollution and other burdens. We also learned about community-led efforts to facilitate healing and build a just and healthy city and state. I had a chance to visit the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters last week. I toured the Carpenters Training Institute and heard about their apprenticeship program, which provides classroom training and hands-on experience to Minnesotans who want to start or advance their career in the carpentry trade. On Monday, I joined nurses from Allina Health’s WestHealth campus on the picket line. These dedicated workers, who’ve risked their own health to care for Minnesotans throughout the pandemic, are fighting for a better contract with fair pay. On Saturday, I joined thousands of University of Minnesota students, fans, and some of my legislative colleagues to watch the Gopher football game. It was a great day and a great win!
