Dear Neighbors, With the election cycle finally behind us, I can now restart my regular legislative updates and our legislative town halls again. I’m proud to say that our district is full of engaged and vocal constituents and this is one important way I can connect and share with all of you about what’s happening at the Capitol and in our community. I’m grateful to the residents of District 63B for again trusting me to represent you and our community at the Capitol; it is truly an honor to work for a better Minnesota alongside you all. In 2020 when I first decided to run for office, it was because I believed in the power of us to solve problems and build a better future together. Democracy is about believing in people and believing in each other. And my four years in the State House have proved that we can accomplish big things together - Paid Family Medical Leave, MN Voting Rights Act, Free School Meals just to name a few - when we work together with Minnesotans in our community and across the state. As we look towards 2025, it will be critical to stand up for multi-racial democracy and our belief in each other. I share the anxiety and fear that many of you have shared about what the next four years may bring and how it will impact our communities. Since the election, the incoming Administration has made clear who it’s working for - with Trump filling his cabinet with self-interested billionaires, right-wing extremists, Fox News stars, and the authors of Project 2025 who have made a name targeting the most vulnerable among us. I won’t sugar coat it -- I am concerned about the incoming Administration and a Congress that has already previewed a governing strategy of chaos, score settling, personal gain, and punching down that puts the partisan and personal interests of the President and his buddies over the national interest. As we approach the New Year and everything that may come, it is important to be grounded in our values and a commitment to protect our communities and defend the values of American democracy. It is a time to turn towards, not against, each other and be vocal in defense of our freedoms. I am committed to using every lever of power we have at the state level to protect people, the rule of law, our state progress, and our representative democracy. The only way we can do this is together - so please reach out, share your ideas, share what’s on your mind, and always reach out if there is some way that I can help. The 2025-26 SessionThis year’s election resulted in a 67-67 tie in the State House, which hasn’t happened in Minnesota since 1979. While there is still some uncertainty now with ongoing court cases, DFL Leader Melissa Hortman and Republican Leader Lisa Demuth have been meeting to negotiate how the House will be run in the 2025 session, and have agreed to an overall committee structure. The membership of committees will be equally divided and represented by DFL and Republican co-chairs. I’m honored to report I’ve been appointed Vice Chair of the Labor Committee, and additionally will be serving on the Elections and Public Safety Committees. As we continue to learn more details about the upcoming 2025 session, I’ll share updates with you here. Stay in TouchThank you for your time, energy, and all you do to make our community a great place to live, work, and play. Always feel free to reach out to me with your input and ideas, or if I can ever be of assistance. My email is rep.emma.greenman@house.mn.gov or you are always welcome to call me at the Capitol at 651-296-4200 and follow my Facebook page for updates. It’s an honor and a privilege to be your State Representative. I'm very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together and look forward to the work we have ahead of us. Together, we can create a stronger, brighter future for all Minnesotans! Best, Emma Greenman State Representative |
