Rep. Emma Greenman Statement on Bill Curbing Influence of Corporate Election Spending
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed HF72, as amended on the House Floor. The bill prohibits corporations that receive state funding from making campaign expenditures or spending money for political purposes.
Representative Emma Greenman (DFL-Minneapolis) spoke on the House Floor in support of the legislation, highlighting that organizations impacted by HF72 would include corporations, partnerships, or LLCs that receive tax breaks, tax expenditures, and tax deductions, contracts, and loans.
“This bill is a welcome step forward in preventing corporations that benefit from government spending from influencing our elections,” said Rep. Greenman. “At a time when billionaires like Elon Musk can spend hundreds of millions of dollars to install politicians friendly to their business interests, more legislation like this that curbs their influence is sorely needed.”
