Dear Neighbors,
It was great to connect with so many of you last weekend at our District 63 Town Hall on Saturday. We had a great turnout of folks who are ready to stand up for our neighbors, resist the attacks of the Trump/MAGA movement on our community and democracy both here and in D.C., and fight for a better future where all Minnesotans can thrive.
If you missed the town hall, you can watch this video recap I recorded alongside Rep. Sam Sencer-Mura and Sen. Zaynab Mohamed to hear more about the issues we discussed. As always, you can email my office (rep.emma.greenman@house.mn.gov) with any questions, comments, or requests for assistance navigating state government agencies.
This week a new state economic forecast confirmed that Donald Trump’s policies are already moving Minnesota’s economy and state budget in the wrong direction and making life more expensive for hardworking Minnesotans. I recorded a video yesterday explaining how Trump’s corrupt, cruel, and chaotic policies are harming Minnesota, which you can watch here.
Last November, the state budget forecast showed a $3.7 billion surplus over the current budget cycle, a $616 million positive balance in the upcoming biennium, and our highest budget reserve fund ever–all due to responsible DFL governance. But as of today, Minnesota’s projected positive balance has shrunk to $456 million. The one thing that has changed since November -- is Donald Trump.

Instead of working to bring down prices as they promised on the campaign trail, Trump has infused our economy with chaos and Republicans in Congress are on the verge of enacting a sweeping tax cut for corporations and the ultra-wealthy, paid for by slashing federal funding for health care for children, families, seniors, and people with disabilities. This will hurt Minnesotans and our state budget.
This latest budget forecast reinforces the importance of being laser-focused on a state budget that helps working and middle-class Minnesotans, not corporations and billionaires who are doing better than ever.
As your representative, I’m committed to fighting for an economy where everyone can get ahead. I will continue to oppose Republican bills to lower taxes for the rich, put barriers to healthcare access, and repeal policies that help Minnesotans thrive like Paid Family and Medical Leave.
Republicans are using the time they have with a one seat advantage to push controversial, unpopular bills that will move our state backward, create holes and instability in our long-term budget, and harm groups of Minnesotans who are already facing a deluge of attacks from the Trump Administration.
I’m proud to be the voice of our district and push back against these bills both on the House Floor and in committee hearings. I want you to know that Democrats are speaking up and fighting back against these proposals when they are brought forward. Republicans need 68 votes to pass any bill, so these extreme proposals will die on the House Floor.

I’ve been working hard to protect our state against Republican’s efforts to drag us back, including rallying against a repeal of Paid Family and Medical Leave that harms workers, families, and all Minnesotans who deserve to take care of their loved ones without losing a paycheck.
I was also proud to stand in solidarity with members of our LGBTQIA+ community this week as DFLers united to defeat an anti-trans bill that would subject children to bullying and harassment by restricting their participation in youth sports.
I’m also continuing to work with government partners to protect Minnesota from the Trump/Musk Administration. From executive orders, to funding cuts, to Congress’ disastrous budget resolution, it can feel overwhelming–and that’s by design. MAGA politicians hope they can get this through without America paying attention, but Minnesota leaders have a game plan, and we’re making progress.
Minnesota DFL representatives have been raising the alarm on the impact of these funding cuts to our state budget. I joined Rep. Kelly Moller for a press conference highlighting the impacts of cuts to organizations who support victims of domestic violence, which you can read about here. Raising awareness of the Trump cuts can have an impact, we saw the pressure working as multiple state Republicans sent a letter to the MN GOP Congressional delegation begging them to not cut Medicaid.

Attorney General Ellison has won multiple lawsuits against the Trump Administration, including a temporary restraining order limiting some of DOGE’s worst actions and a preliminary injunction to block Trump’s illegal executive order denying life-saving medical care to trans youth.
Action Alert: Attorney General Ellison is also holding a series of community forums to allow residents to share their stories, inform about his office’s work, and share how they can be involved. There will be a forum focused on immigration in Minneapolis on March 13 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., which you can RSVP for here.
