Release: State Representative Mary Frances Clardy Earns Recognition from National Women’s Organization

Tuesday, November 12, 2024

(St. Paul, MN) – The National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) has announced State Representative Mary Frances Clardy (DFL-Inver Grove Heights) as a 2024 Elected Women of Excellence Award winner.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this national recognition related to my work closing opportunity gaps in our communities across Minnesota,” said Rep. Clardy. “Strong public education, affordable housing, and more career pathways for post-secondary students contribute to a thriving state and local economy.”

This award was created to identify women who have worked tirelessly, often breaking down barriers and overcoming obstacles that once seemed insurmountable, to serve their communities. These pacesetters have engendered an environment where women can now serve in public office and fight for the issues they are passionate about.

“NFWL is built on the spirit of celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of hardworking, dedicated women, and we are thrilled to honor this year’s outstanding leaders,” says NFWL Executive Director Jody Thomas.

Rep. Mary Frances Clardy is a lifelong resident of Minnesota and is serving her first term in legislative District 53A, which encompasses the cities of Inver Grove Heights, Mendota Heights, West Saint Paul, Lilydale, and Sunfish Lake. During this 2023-2024 biennium, Rep. Clardy served as vice chair of the House Education Finance Committee. She also sits on the following committees: Sustainable Infrastructure Policy; Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy; and Human Services Finance.

Rep. Clardy currently works with new, non-tenured elementary school educators on best practices in the classroom, so they can provide children with a safe and secure place to learn – a place where they can concentrate on academic, social and emotional skills every day so they can enjoy a bright, healthy future. Prior to being elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, Rep. Clardy was a member of the Inver Grove Heights School Board.

The winners were nominated by their colleagues and constituents from their home states, before being chosen by a distinguished panel of NFWL members.
