Release: Rep. Clardy bill receives public hearing to expand school resources for Minnesota students

Tuesday, March 4, 2025

ST. PAUL, MN - Today the House Education Finance Committee held a hearing on HF 984, bipartisan legislation authored by Rep. Mary Frances Clardy (DFL-Inver Grove Heights) to expand elementary student access to guidance and counseling.

“Whether in a classroom or at home, every child deserves the chance to grow and thrive in their community and our state,” said Rep. Clardy. “It’s critically important to ensure this dedicated investment stream can be utilized to meet all of our kids’ needs.”

Minnesota provides a variety of state aid streams to public school districts to cover the cost of providing basic services to nonpublic school students, including instructional materials (which must be secular in nature and not used for religious instruction or worship), health services, special education, transportation, English learner instruction, and guidance and counseling services for secondary students.
