Representative Samakab Hussein tours the Nine at Lexington Station

Tuesday, January 14, 2025

Saint Paul, MN- Yesterday, Representative Samakab Hussein (DFL-Saint Paul) toured the Nine at Lexington Station, a six story, 304-unit, multi-family mid-rise located in his district along with Representative María Isa Pérez-Vega (DFL-Saint Paul), Ramsey County Commissioner Rena Moran, and City Council Member Anika Bowie.

“As a State Representative and a member of the Minnesota Housing Committee, I am deeply committed to addressing the housing challenges facing our state,” Rep. Hussein said. “Minnesota is currently experiencing a severe housing shortage, with rising costs, limited supply, and increasing evictions disproportionately affecting low-income families, seniors, and individuals experiencing homelessness.

“In 2023–2024, our Housing Committee made a historic investment in housing, allocating $1 billion in funding for various initiatives. This investment will create more affordable housing opportunities, protect tenants’ rights, and ensure that more people can remain in their homes. These measures represent a bold step forward in addressing the housing crisis in my district and our state.

“The Nine Apartments is a prime example of what innovative, community-focused housing can achieve. These high-quality, accessible apartments provide not only affordability but also elegance and luxury, while being conveniently located near public transit, colleges, and major transportation routes. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Robert Lux, President & CEO of Alatus, for his exceptional leadership and vision in bringing this project to life. The Nine Apartments are a milestone in our efforts to create sustainable housing that serves all Minnesotans.”

Additionally, Rep. Hussein shares his plans ahead of the 94th legislative session:

“Looking ahead, my goal for 2025 is to continue advocating for bold action and increased investment in affordable housing. Every Minnesotan deserves a safe and stable place to call "home, and we must build on our progress to close the homeownership gap, address the severe shortage of affordable homes, and tackle homelessness with urgency.

“Together, we can ensure that housing is a right—not a privilege—for every resident in our state. I remain committed to working tirelessly on behalf of my constituents to create a Minnesota where everyone has access to secure, affordable, and sustainable housing.”

The Nine at Lexington Station commenced construction in fall 2022. The site is located at the corner of University Ave and Lexington Parkway in the Midway neighborhood between Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Half of the building's units will be affordable at 60% of the area median income.

“Alatus is extremely proud of the hard work that brought The Nine at Lexington Station to life, expressed Barrett Corwin, Director of Development at Alatus. “There are a total of 304 units at the project ranging from Studio to 2BR unit types offered to both affordable and market rate renters.

“The project has the largest multifamily new construction solar array estimated to generate approximately 375,000 kW of energy per year for the building.  In addition to the solar array, the HVAC system uses electricity and there are zero gas lines to residential units making the project one of the leaders in the multifamily sector with regards to carbon neutrality in the State of Minnesota.

“We are excited to add to an already busy and energetic block and connect 500+ residents to employment, education, and lifestyle nodes via the Green Line and I-94.”
