SAINT PAUL, Minn. - On Thursday, January 19, 2023, the Minnesota House passed the Protecting Reproductive Options (PRO) Act. The bill enshrines Minnesotans’ fundamental right to reproductive healthcare. Rep. María Isa Pérez-Vega (DFL- Saint Paul) voted for the legislation.
“Mad love to everyone on passing HF 1 yesterday,” said Rep. María Isa Pérez-Vega. “I really want to express my thanks again to Rep. Hollins for her testimony that spoke for so many of us in solidarity and continuing the fight for our daughters and their reproductive freedom. Bodily autonomy and the ability to have equitable access to reproductive health care are imperative for every Minnesotan. Gracias a todo/a/x. Mi cuerpo es mío.”
The bill protects Minnesotans’ right to contraception, the right to carry a pregnancy to term, and the right to abortion, and ensures the right to privacy for personal reproductive health decisions. It also prevents interference by anti-choice politicians who seek to enact or defend medically unnecessary barriers to comprehensive reproductive health care. The Senate will act on the bill next, and Gov. Walz has signaled he will sign the legislation into law.
