Legislative Update 04.26.2024

Friday, April 26, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us last night for my town hall meeting. It was incredibly valuable to hear your thoughts, concerns, and ideas about the 2023-2024 legislative session. The feedback I receive from you is crucial in shaping my work as your representative. Your participation in these town halls help me stay informed about the issues that matter most to you and allows me to advocate for your needs.

To ensure your voice is heard, please contact my office directly at rep.liz.lee@house.mn.gov or by phone at 651-296-4277.

Thank you again for your engagement. I look forward to connecting with you again soon.

Northern Iron Foundry

I understand the recent air quality concerns raised by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) have caused worry in our community. My office is in close communication with community leaders to prioritize the health and safety of our families and neighbors. We will share clear, up-to-date information and next steps as soon as they become available.

I attended an informative community listening session hosted by the Payne-Phalen Community Council on Tuesday where we learned about their initiative in holding the foundry accountable and protecting the health and safety of our community. The MPCA is working with Ramsey County Public Health and the MN Department of Health to hold another community meeting in late May to provide additional information to the community. For more information, you can access their website here.

Here is my full release addressing the matter.

Universal School Meals Program

Since the inception of the universal school meals, over one million more lunches have been served monthly by the free school meals program this year, saving families thousands of dollars. As a proud co-author of the legislation, I was excited to see its benefit in our own Eastside community.

Earlier this week, I visited Txuj Ci Hmong Language & Culture Lower Campus and helped serve lunch to students. I was impressed to learn that Txuj Ci Lower Campus has already served over 102,900 meals this school year!

A big thank you to the entire Txuj Ci Lower Campus team – administrators, teachers, and especially the school food service workers! Their dedication and hard work make the universal school meals program a huge success for our youngest learners.

Floor Action

Last week, I was proud to vote for a strong Tenant’s Rights Policy Bill, which includes provisions to safeguard tenants’ right to organize, protect tenant survivors of domestic violence, clarify tenant’s rights to emergency services, prohibit rental discrimination based on public assistance, and more. More details about the bill can be found here
