Rep. Knudsen Invites Public Input at Upcoming Social Studies Standards Hearings
St. Paul, MN — With the official notice to adopt rules Representative Krista Knudsen (R – Lake Shore) is inviting all concerned parents and educators to submit comments during the open period that runs until 4:30 pm on October 25th. Comments can be submitted at the Office of Administrative Hearings website here. Following the comment period two public hearings will be held over video conferencing that the public can log into on November 8th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and November 9th from 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. “Social Studies is an important portion of our student’s curriculum. These proposed changes add abhorrent language that is intended to separate students into collectives based on inalienable characteristics.” Said Rep. Knudsen. “While we have some dark stains on our nation's history we should always teach our students to strive to create ‘a more perfect union’ and that goal is only accomplished when we all work together as Americans.” At the conclusion of the public comment period and hearings, there will be a ruling on whether the proposed changes get implemented or if they should be amended which then restarts the process of a public comment period for any rules changes. It is also possible that after the public hearings, there is a recommendation of no changes and the rulemaking process would end.
