Representative Knudsen Statement on the November Budget Forecast Saint Paul, MN — This morning Minnesota Management and Budget released their November budget forecast for the upcoming and following biennium. Their report projects a 1.1 billion dollar decrease in the surplus compared to the last budget forecast as well as an over 5 billion dollar deficit in the 2028-29 budget. Representative Krista Knudsen (R – Lake Shore) followed up the report with this to say: "Reckless government spending has real consequences, and Minnesota families are bearing the brunt of it," said Representative Knudsen. "The nearly $10 billion in new taxes and fees from the last budget are hitting households across our state, making it harder for parents to provide for their children and save for the future. We started the last biennium with an 18 billion dollar surplus which Democrats with total control of state government have turned into a 5 billion dollar deficit." "As we head into the next legislative session, it’s critical that we address these financial burdens head-on. We must prioritize responsible budgeting to ease the strain on hardworking Minnesotans and ensure their tax dollars are spent wisely. This means stopping the unrestrained growth in state agencies and holding those accountable who have allowed historic levels of fraud to occur in the Walz administration." |
