Dotseth receives award for housing efforts

Wednesday, July 3, 2024

ST. PAUL - State Rep. Jeff Dotseth, R-Silver Township, has earned an award for his legislative efforts to promote housing affordability and homeownership during the 2024 legislative session.

Dotseth's 2024 Housing Leadership Award was presented by Housing First Minnesota, which indicates it, "recognizes legislators who went above and beyond to promote housing affordability and homeownership during the 2024 legislative session.

"For the first time in decades, housing supply, affordability, land use and zoning reform took center stage at the Capitol. With the announcement of the 'Minnesotans for More Homes' agenda in February, a bipartisan coalition of legislators attempted to address the housing crisis afflicting the state by allowing the construction of more homes of all types and price points."

Dotseth said he's pleased with last session's progress, but added much more work remains on this crucial issue.

"The cost of homeownership in Minnesota continues to skyrocket, cutting people out of the market or significantly limiting their options," Dotseth said. "Reports show Minnesota is over 100,000 housing units short of what would be considered a healthy housing market, and past decisions made at the Capitol have contributed to this problem.

"I'm honored to receive this award for the work we've begun and look forward to continuing our efforts to help open up more homeownership opportunities for all Minnesotans.”
