Statement from Dotseth re: Supreme Court duty to retreat decision

Friday, August 2, 2024

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Jeff Dotseth, R-Silver Township, issued the following statement in response to the Minnesota Supreme Court recently establishing Minnesotans have a duty to retreat before using deadly force when threatened:

“It’s highly concerning that our state is favoring criminals over innocent victims with this decision, infringing upon our most basic right to protect ourselves and our family from threats,” Dotseth said. “This is another example how one-party control in our state is catering to the activists. This duty to retreat ruling is so extreme Minnesota is the only state in the union to have adopted it. It’s another example of how radicals are working to dismantle our Second Amendment one swipe at a time, in this case endangering law-abiding citizens by tying their hands before they can deter an aggressor. The Legislature is going to have to take up this issue so we can restore our fundamental ability to defend ourselves and loved ones.”
