Rep. Gillman Joins GOP Colleagues in Introducing Women’s Bill of Rights Saint Paul, MN — House Republicans, including Representative Dawn Gillman (R – Dassel) have introduced HF 5128, the Women’s Bill of Rights. This is legislation that would recognize the innate differences between men and women. A comprehensive act aimed at reinforcing and defining the rights of women within the state. This bill reaffirms our state's commitment to gender equality and clarity in legal definitions and sets a precedent for the protection and recognition of women’s rights. It would provide protection for women-specific institutions such as sports, domestic abuse shelters, locker rooms, and prisons. "It's important that we prioritize the safety and protection of women and girls." Said Representative Gillman of the bill. “Having separate spaces for men and women is sometimes necessary due to biological differences, prioritizing safety. With increasing reports of women and girls in sports getting injured, it has become a matter of basic safety and this legislation would prioritize that safety.” The bill outlines the state’s interest in preventing unfair treatment and maintaining safety, privacy, and fairness, allowing for single-sex environments where appropriate. “We want to reaffirm our commitment to upholding the rights of all citizens and look forward to the positive changes this bill will bring to the state’s legal landscape.” ### |
