ST. PAUL – With 44 Democrat lawmakers declaring that they do not support a fix to a law that has left dozens of schools without school resources officers (SROs), State Representative Bobbie Harder, R-Henderson Twp, is urging those Democrats who remain undecided to join with Republicans in asking Governor Walz to call a special session and work together on a solution.
"This new law has caused dozens of schools to lose their school resource officers," said Harder. "This takes away tools SROs can use to de-escalate violent situations and makes students less safe. We need to prioritize the safety of students over politics, and fix this law as soon as possible."
This new law takes away tools SROs can use to keep students and teachers safe. In response, over 40 law enforcement agencies have pulled SROs from schools across Minnesota.
