ST. PAUL — Representative Bobbie Harder, R-Henderson, issued the following statement on the November Budget and Economic Forecast released yesterday showing a looming deficit in the next biennium.
"Last session, there was a record-setting $17.5 billion surplus, setting the stage for meaningful tax relief and responsible budgeting to make life more affordable for the many Minnesotans struggling with rising cost of living and inflation. Instead of budgeting with Minnesotans in mind, Democrats spent the surplus and raised taxes by another $10 billion to fund their spending spree. Now, we're facing a deficit within a few short years. We need to use the coming session to reverse the damage Democrats have done to Minnesota budgets and make the state government live within its means, just like Minnesota families do."
