Legislative UpdateWe’ve had an eventful first few weeks and I thought I’d share an update on my work here at the capitol and back home in our district. As we move forward this session, I will be sure to keep everyone in the loop.
School District VisitsOver the past few weeks, I’ve been meeting with educators, staff, and students from the Watertown-Mayer, Eastern Carver County, and Sibley East School Districts to hear first-hand about the challenges they face and what they need to succeed. March for LifeThis past Wednesday, I joined my fellow legislators and advocates at the Capitol in a demonstration of support for the lives of the unborn. I feel honored that so many people came together to make their voices heard!
Committee Work
TaxesThe House Taxes Committee has been hard at work striving to make Minnesota affordable by reducing the growing tax burden on families. This means working to repeal taxes like the automatic gas tax increase, delivery taxes, and our state tax on Social Security. Public SafetyThis week the House Committee on Public Safety heard presentations from the Minnesota Sheriffs Association, the Minnesota Chief of Police Association, and the Minnesota Police and Peace Officer Association on important safety concerns for our communities and their departments. AgricultureOn Wednesday, the House Committee on Agriculture Finance and Policy received presentations from two groups. The University of Minnesota’s Agricultural Research, Education, and Extension Tech Transfer Program discussed ways to support agricultural productivity, while the Minnesota Cable Communications Association and the Minnesota Telecom Alliance Association addressed the opportunities and challenges of broadband deployment.
