Legislative update as 2023 session begins

Niska

Dear Neighbor,

It was an incredible, humbling experience taking the oath of office Tuesday as the 93rd Legislature began its work at the Capitol in St. Paul.

Taking the oath to represent the people of our district, a place I have lived virtually my whole life, made it all the sweeter. I sincerely thank everyone who has supported me on my way to becoming a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives and I pledge that I will do my very best to advocate for the best interests of the people in District 31A.

I already have begun working on a number of local challenges, including resolving the groundwater contamination issue in the Red Oaks neighborhood – a top focus of mine for this session. I am working on legislation to address this matter and have even spoken with the governor a couple of times to make sure he understands how important this project is for us.

From a broad perspective, the list of priorities for this session starts with an opportunity to deliver meaningful tax relief with a $17.6 billion state surplus. Price increases are putting the squeeze on local families and businesses alike and it’s time to do what’s right for overcharged Minnesota taxpayers by allowing them to keep more of their hard-earned dollars. Anything less is unacceptable.

Watch for more on these and other important subjects as the session unfolds building up to our adjournment in late May. Your input always is welcome, and you can reach me by calling (651) 296-2439 or by emailing rep.harry.niska@house.mn.gov. Sincerely,

Niska
