SAINT PAUL, Minn. – This evening, the Minnesota House of Representatives voted to pass a capital investment bill to fund projects across the state including the National Sports Center in Blaine. Rep. Matt Norris (DFL - Blaine) voted for the bill and released the following statement:
“The National Sports Center is the economic engine of our community, so I’m proud to pass this legislation that will deliver a down payment on the state’s obligation to maintain a word-class facility. While this funding is significant, it’s just the start of what’s needed to address years of backlogged maintenance at the NSC,” said Rep. Norris. “I call on the Senate to pass this bill quickly so we can begin these capital improvements as soon as possible. ”
The bill provides $9.6 million for the National Sports Center. There’s approximately $40 million in deferred maintenance on the facility.
The National Sports Center is the world's largest amateur sports facility. The NSC operates over 100 unique programs and events in a variety of sports as well as hosting numerous national and international competitions. These events draw over 4 million visitors each year, making it the most visited sports facility in the state. The NSC is the second biggest tourist attraction in the state of Minnesota behind the Mall of America.
Video of the floor debate will be uploaded on the House Information Youtube page.
