It looks like we may be turning a corner on the weather front! At the Capitol, things are the same as ever - busy and productive! Here are some updates from the Capitol.
1. Budget Framework Agreed to - Investing in Minnesota
At the start of the week, House and Senate leadership and Governor Walz came to an agreement on budget targets. “Targets” are what we agree to spend on each issue area; what exactly we use the money for will be determined in the next few weeks.
When people ask me what we should do with the surplus, I’ve had a consistent answer:
Prioritize investments in areas that will offer us the highest and longest ROI like infrastructure, housing, and education.
Return a substantial portion of the surplus through tax cuts.
These priorities are firmly reflected in the agreement, and I can’t wait to dive into the details to guarantee we use these funds as widely as possible. I’ll keep you in the loop!
2. Improving the National Sports Center - Making it Accessible to All
My bill, HF 587, was heard in the Veterans Committee on Monday.
It would build a barrier-free adaptive sports complex at the National Sports Center along with rugby fields to expand athletic opportunities for people of all abilities at the NSC.
Thank you to the literal hall of fame lineup who joined me to help present the bill! With their help we’ll make the NSC a more inclusive place for all Minnesotans!
3. Ramadan - Ramadan Kareem!
Wishing everyone a blessed and joyful Ramadan! May this month be filled with peace, happiness, and spiritual growth for all. Ramadan Kareem!
