I hope you have been able to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather before it begins to cool down again. At the Capitol we are in the midst of budget bill season where we are passing budgets on various topics. Once the House and Senate pass our respective bills we’ll meet in joint “conference” committees to determine the final budgets we’ll send to the Governor for his signature.
1. Upcoming Virtual Town Hall - Come Say Hi!
I am excited to share that I will be attending a North Metro Virtual Town Hall this Sunday, April 16 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. alongside Senator Heather Gustafson, Senator John Hoffman, and Rep. Brion Curran.
2. Property Tax Bill Featured in Star Tribune - Helping Folks Stay in Homes
The Star Tribune wrote a great article covering everything you need to know about property taxes.
It featured my bill to increase the homestead market value exclusion cap for the first time since 2011 to $437,100. When I was knocking doors during the campaign I heard repeatedly how high property taxes have become a burden, particularly for our vulnerable seniors. My bill will help address this issue.
Our budget prioritizes a higher education system that is accessible, affordable, and effectively building the skilled workforce Minnesota deserves.
Our bill contains several important provisions like a tuition freeze across the Minnesota State system, addressing the U of M’s tuition shortfall, investing in our tribal colleges, and scholarship programs to make sure we have the workers we need for high-demand professions.
