There are just a couple weeks left in session! We are hard at work in conference committee meetings with the Senate where we are designing the final version of our bills. Here’s my update from the Capitol:
1. Paid Family and Medical Leave - Supporting Workers and Families
This week, the Minnesota House passed Paid Family and Medical Leave!
The bill provides Minnesota workers up to 12 weeks of paid family leave to care for family or themselves.
Every day in Minnesota, workers face the impossible choice of either going to work to earn a paycheck or staying home to bond with a newborn or take care of themselves or a sick family member.
2. Education Budget - Historic Funding for Students
The House Education Budget Bill makes historic investments in our public schools!
It includes my bill to boost the general per student funding formula and adjust it for inflation moving forward so political gridlock doesn't harm our students.
Check out this video where I breakdown some of the major funding priorities in the bill.
3. Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - Celebrating our Neighbors
Happy AAPI Heritage Month! This is a time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and to honor the rich and diverse cultures that make up the AAPI community.
This is an opportunity to learn more about the history and experiences of AAPI individuals, and to recognize and address the challenges and injustices they continue to face.
In Saint Paul we are doing this by increasing funding for the Department of Human Rights to better track and prevent hate crimes.
