We only have a week left in session and we are continuing to make major accomplishments. Pretty soon we’ll have passed our remaining budget bills and adjourn until next February! Here’s some of what we’ve completed so far:
1. House Passes Housing Bill - Major Investments in Manufactured Homes
The House passed our final Housing budget bill with a total of $1 billion in housing investments to make housing more affordable for everyone.
Included are several provisions to make manufactured homes more affordable and to improve resident rights:
$17 million for manufactured home park infrastructure grants and loans
$10 million for a revolving loan fund to convert parks to resident cooperative ownership
$10 million for manufactured home financing, down payment assistance, and repair/renovation
New requirements for owners to provide notice to residents when an owner plans to sell a park
I was proud to support this legislation and carry several of these critical provisions to fruition!
2. House Passes Final Higher Education Bill - Making College More Affordable
We approved our higher education budget! This is a great bill which will make college more accessible and affordable for Minnesotans.
Notably, the budget provides free college to students with household income under $80,000!
With declining enrollment across higher education, the report provides a record increase in investment for Minnesota’s colleges and universities to reverse this trend.
3. Thanks to Imam Walid Shadi - Representing our Community
I was proud to welcome Imam Walid Shadi from the Muslim American Society Minnesota Blaine Masjid to be the House Chaplain on Wednesday!
He offered an inspiring prayer for the members of the House and was a great representative from our wonderful community!
