This week I’ve been busy performing my legislative duties in our district. Here is some of what I’ve worked on this week.
Blaine Business Council - Encouraging a Thriving Economy
Yesterday I attended the Blaine Business Council meeting.
Besides being a good opportunity to connect with local business and civic leaders, Mayor Tim Sanders delivered a State of the City address.
In short, new businesses are opening, crime is down, and more opportunities to make Blaine a destination city are on the way!
I am currently working on drafting several bills in collaboration with my colleagues at the city level, including one that would create a “social district” like the one in downtown Anoka at the new sports entertainment district being built near the National Sports Center!
Anoka-Hennepin School District Visit - Supporting Students
On Wednesday I had the opportunity to join fellow legislators, school board members, and district leaders to discuss the policy priorities of Anoka-Hennepin School District in the upcoming legislative session.
I’m looking forward to continuing my commitment to public education and supporting the students and educators in our area!
Last biennium I led efforts to greatly increase funding for our schools and tie that funding to inflation so we don’t slide back on our commitment to education. I’ll be sure to keep promoting effective policies like that!
I will also be continuing my efforts to promote increased equalization aid from the state that will benefit all three school districts that fall within my House district.
United 4 Youth - Investing in Youth
On Tuesday I went back to my roots in youth development by attending the United 4 Youth Campaign Launch!
We gathered as a community to talk about the importance of investing in high-quality, accessible, and affordable youth programming.
This has been a long-term priority of mine and I will continue this work when session gets underway. When we effectively invest in youth, we provide exponential benefits downstream!
