Legislative Update - Upcoming Town Hall

Friday, March 14, 2025

Dear Neighbors,

Work at the Capitol is continuing as we wrap up the last week of the temporary Republican advantage. Here’s an update:

Upcoming Town Hall - Come Say Hello!

  • I am hosting a town hall on Tuesday, April 1, at 7 pm, at the Mary Ann Young Center with fellow Anoka County legislator, Rep. Kari Rehrauer.
  • I encourage you to come by to learn about the 2025 session and share your thoughts.
  • You can sign up for the town hall and presubmit questions here.

Homestead Market Value Exclusion - Improving Affordability for Veterans

  • Earlier this week I presented my bill to expand and improve the Disabled Veterans Homestead Market Value Exclusion to give disabled veterans a break on their property taxes.
  • Dr. Kristy Janigo of The American Legion Department of Minnesota testified, saying: “Representative Norris, your bill is the only one that encompasses all the changes that have been requested by the eight Congressionally Chartered Veterans Service Organizations in the Minnesota Commander’s Task Force. Last fall, you sat down with Trent Dilks of the DAV and myself to discuss the needs. You truly listened to and took veterans’ feedback at the grassroots level into consideration. The devil is in the details. So, thank you.”
  • I’m honored I could bring forward this important bill and play a role in giving our Veterans the support they duly earned.

Meeting with Educators - Listening to Concerns, Learning How to Support Them

  • I met with two groups of educators within the last week to discuss teacher pensions and other education policy priorities.
  • I’m more than happy to make time in my schedule to chat with some of our most dedicated public servants.
  • I’m a co-author of HF 1582 which is a critical bill that addresses many of the long standing issues facing our pension system.
